Tom Pitzl, Community Policing Liason

In April 2023 Sgt. Tom Pitzl accepted the Roseville Police Department(RPD)  Community Relations Position. With over 18 years of service with RPD, Pitzl has participated in almost every single community outreach event, from Shop with a Cop, Cops and Cones, Night to Unite, Family Night Out, Breaking Down Barriers, Coffee with a Cop, to organizing various events including a dunk tank.  In addition, he also has served in almost every role in the department, from officer, field training officer, background investigator, honor guard, explorer advisor, detective, SLO, hostage/crisis negotiator, Taser instructor, sergeant, and the list goes on. Pitzl has received countless awards and recognition over the years, including the President’s Community Partner Award (Century College), a Minnesota Chief’s Meritorious Service Award, and the Sergeant Eric Christensen Leadership Award.  Pitzl has also been passionate about supporting his profession by serving on the Honor Guard, President of the local FOP, participating in the Police Unity Tour to honor fallen officers, and most recently serving on the Officer Wellness Committee.

In his new role Pitzl will report to the Deputy Police Chief and is directly or indirectly responsible for managing written/print communication efforts, and supporting the engagement, outreach and general communication needs for the Police Department. This includes both visual and written communication, website maintenance, and providing minimal graphic design and video editing. This position assists with community events and community relations as directed by the Deputy Police Chief. This position will apply professional principles and judgment to assist with the planning, operations, and administration of the branding, marketing, outreach, engagement and communications of the Police Department, while providing accurate, effective, informative, and timely public information to internal staff, the news media, residents, and businesses that furthers the City’s commitment and vision for informative, equitable and responsive government.
